MetaFork in the Road Seen at Tesla Palo Alto During AI Day

You and I are living in an age of transition, at the time of a giant fork in the road.

Most people today did not grow up with smartphones, but now we use smartphones every day.

We did not grow up with robotaxis, and in the future, they will be commonplace. The same goes for the Tesla Optimus humanoid robot.  None of us consider daily life normal with the robot yet, but one day we may, if we choose that path.

A giant 30-foot fork in the road appeared at Tesla AI Day in Palo Alto as a monumental symbol of our changing times.

This artwork, which was first seen at Burning Man, may be planned for permanent installation at Tesla and was commissioned and paid for by Elon Musk.

Hunter Leggitt studios created “MetaFork in the Road,” for Elon Musk.  It is described as a “whimsical 30-foot tall and 4,500 lbs steel installation representing the classic metaphor for a deciding moment in life when a choice between presented options is required.”

Hunter Leggitt studios says,

“The idea of bringing a fork in the road to Burning Man originated from a visionary art patron who approached Hunter about 4-weeks before the Burn to collaborate on and ultimately produce the piece.

Accepting the challenge, Hunter and his fabrication team spent the following 48 hours designing the look, scale, technical details, and production budget of the piece. Within days, the piece was engineered and fully under construction. Built entirely from 3/8” & 1/2” hot-dipped galvanized plate steel, our design, engineering, fabrication, and installation teams pulled off quite a feat in such short notice.”

“I love the inverse poetry of making metaphors literal

There is a giant 30ft (literal) fork in the road outside the Autopilot office in Palo Alto”

Elon Musk

Elon Musk tweeted that he commissioned the art piece, “It was built & paid for at my request. Hunter & team did great work.”

What do you think about the giant fork in the road? How do you celebrate our changing times?
